At five o'clock we went to dress up and we were practicing our singing and some tokelau people were really scared that they don't want to dance.

At six o’clock we sated the show and the junior mori was the first one that was done. Then the samo, tokelau, cook islands, tonga, kapa haka.

At hosanna church i felt so nervous that my heart was beating fast. I couldn't move because there was 500 people that was looking at us. So I dance and it felt really good to me. And our group was doing amazing because they were singing loud and doing the right move.

Reading Learning Story

Term 3 Reading

I have been building my skills as a reader.
I’m going to share about how I know I’ve been successful as a reader.

This is what helps me be a good reader
*What I know about it.
* Five-finger rule because if I had one or two finger it is too easy for me but if I have four or five fingers it is too hard for me.
*Go back and read if it make sense.
* use pictures.

My book is bikes
The author is jank marriott
It is a non fiction (type of text)

I was a good reader when I use picture because it tells me what he's doing

This helped me because The picture shows me what the bike they have and the green arrows.

Procedural learning story

We have been learning to describe a process.
When I write, I need to think about the ideas, structure & language,
organization, vocabulary, sentences, spelling and punctuation I use.

Ideas
Structure and Language
Organization
Vocabulary
Sentence Structure
Spelling
Punctuation
-write using a range of ideas, experiences or items of information
-confidently shape my ideas for effect
-create content that is concise and relevant to the curriculum task
-support my ideas with precise detail
-uses ‘show not tell’ when appropriate
-deliberately choose a clear, controlled and logical text structure to suit the audience and purpose
-show creativity and innovation when creating texts for my audience
-choose
appropriate adjective, verbs, nouns and adverbs.
-write in structured, well developed paragraphs that flow well from one to the next within the text
-use linking words and phrases to link paragraphs for effect
-Use a bullet point or number to separate the different steps
-maintain audience interest through content, humour and language choices
-use language that is suitable to the topic and purpose, and discuss these choices with others
-deliberately use written and visual language features when appropriate to enhance my writing; e.g similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, rhetorical question and diagrams
-use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning
-use a variety of sentence structures, beginnings and lengths to give effect
-use complex sentences that are grammatically correct
-use some conjunctions correctly eg: FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)

-write all basic sound and spelling patterns and use spelling rules to write unknown words
-spell words correctly by drawing on knowledge of how words work
-use all basic punctuation independently
-attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses).

Here is a piece of writing I did this term.

I was writing to describe the process that enables a
lightbulb to turn on.  Notice how I used feedback to improve my work.
Start writing here:

1.  The tools how a light bulb work.
So you need a light bulb and two  wires and a battery.

2.Then put the first wire and connect to The battery and the light bulb.

3.Then put the second wire and connected to the light bulb and the battery.

4.Then the electricity flows   through the batter to the light bulb then it
light up!

Buddy Feedback: it is good but it is ‘flows’ not ‘flow’ because it will not make sense.
From Darius

Teacher Feedback: You have used time connectives to show the order someon
e would need to go on to make the circuit.  You have a full stop at the end of
each sentence.
Remember to put a capital at the beginning of each sentence.  Also, you
talked about needing some materials which was a great idea.  Then you added in t
he word battery to your instructions but didn’t put them in the materials list.  Make
sure that any materials you need are included in the list at the beginning.

My next step is to use all basic punctuation independently.

mindfulness

In Room 4, we’ve been
learning to be
mindful.

Being mindful is helpful for me because it
helps me in being ready for learning and
making me happy.

There are different ways to do
mindfulness.
 We can do mindful moving,
mindful eating or mindful breathing.

The best way for me to do
mindfulness is moving so
you can connect to your body.
I like doing hikitia te haa.

This is because it can make your
red zone to green zone.

On this page of free resources, I
recommend you try hikitia te haa
because
it
can take all your anger away
from
you and make your body strong.

Justice

In Room 4, we’ve been thinking about things that are just and unjust.

We’ve been reading a book called ‘Dawn Raids’ by Pauline Smith.

We’ve been thinking about what is just or unjust in the story.

I think it was fair when the grandma hit the police because
 she was trying
to keep her family
protected.

I think it was unfair when  the police took the men to jail because
they thought
that
they were overstayers for 20
years but they weren't overstayers.

We’ve also been learning about the treaty of Waitangi.  We’ve been finding
out about promises
that were broken.

I think it was fair when the maori killed the settlers because they killed
Te Rauparaha wife at the
Wairau Valley.

I think it was unfair when the England people didn't sign the treaty.

I was able to make some connections between these things and my life.

In my life it’s fair when my brother lets me play with his
Pokemon card sometimes.

In my life it’s unfair when I don't get to play games because
I always to do homework.

When that unfair thing happened, I got mad because my big brothers
aways get to play games.

Swimming learning story

Swimming Learning Story

I have been learning swimming at Cannons Creek Pool.

In swimming, I’m really good at
  • Holding my breath under the pool for a long time.
  • Floating on my back
  • Dolphin Diving

I’ve been learning to
  • Freestyle without my blue board

Something I’d still like to learn is
  • Backstroke

Pallet learning Story

We have been learning about a new tool to show our learning.  Our tool was a padlet. You can
make arrows that connect ideas or pieces of information.  You can add pictures to show
your ideas or information.

We have used a padlet to communicate our ideas about the stories we've learnt
about Porirua.  We've been thinking about how knowing our past helps us prepare for our future.

I made some connections on my padlet.

I connected to  Te Rongo to Wairau Valley  because she died there because
she got shot by a settler at the Wairau valley.

I connected to  Te Rauparaha to Auckland because he went to jail there.

I connected to Auckland because I went there because there was a funeral.

Learning  how to ride a bike in a safe way

The hardest thing was when we start riding the bike then
we are not allowed to get out of the circle.  We couldn’t
even touch the ground, and we needed to go slow so we
couldn’t jump on to them because you could get out.

I overcame a challenge that the teacher told me I was good
at signaling. Being ready to pedal the bike was hard
because you always need to lift your left pedal up, and put
one foot up on it and put your other foot on the pedal on
the other side and push so you can go fast.

The Problem:
Ajay’s Parent’s

At Ajay’s parent’s wedding on the weekend 99 people were
invited to the wedding.

48 extra people showed up.
How many people were there?

What different ways can you solve this problem?

How we solved the problem:
First I read the problem and I added 99 people and 48 extra people to Ajay’s wedding.
Next I add the 1 to the 99 = 100 so I can make a whole hundred.
Then I add 100 to 47.
Finally I got the answer  147 people that come to A jay's wedding.

Working as a group is important:  Choose 2 to write about
I am good at….  because….
I am getting better at ….. because …..
It’s hard for me …… because …...
I need to work on  because….
I am good splitting the numbers because I make even numbers so I can make the right answer.

I’m good at  using different strategies  because I explain ideas and keeping my team on track so
they know how to say the ideas.

inati

Room 4 is learning to work as a team. We researched people working as a
team. We learnt about orchestras, tivaevae, ubuntu, inati,Ngati and Castells.
Today I’m going to tell you about inati.

Inati uses these jobs- fishing man   -picking up the food for their family
-people with the list   -share out with the food

Skills for doing inati-  fishing the right time because the water goes high and
Low    - getting the right food for the fish because of you
Must get the right one for the fish to eat

How to do that in room 4? We could be like them by working in a team and
using the right tools and we can share our thinking and our idea with people
like they shared their food with their people.

In soccer we need to have the same skills as they do

Like in a soccer we need to have the right equipment like a soccer ball, teams,
ref, having a goalie.

The Problem:

Planting Trays 2
We are preparing to grow some seeds to plant on the bank down to the basketball court.
Alicia has offered us some bigger trays.  They hold 12 plants each.
How many trays will we need if we want to grow 150 plants??

What different ways can you solve this?

How we solved the problem:
First I read the problem and then I did a t-chart.

thenI did 144+12=156

next
plant
plant

plant
plant

plant
plant

                                                                                       I didn't plant this because there's 12
plant in one tray and if you take away
6 from the 12 you get 6 and you can
take away 6 from the 156
                                                                                Because 156 take away 6=150.
And we used 13 trays to plant 150 plants.

Learning Play

At play we went to the hall and played some basketball. Then it
was boys vs the girls and there were no rules. It was fun
because our team keeps passing the ball to each other so the
girls got tired.  And then I passed the ball to Rougan so he could
pass the ball to Lincoln so Lincoln can throw the ball in the hoop.
That’s why I picked Lincoln because when you pass
the ball to him he throws the ball as high as he can so no one
can get the ball and it might score in the hoop or not.
